Saturday at Nolan Catholic High School delivered a full slate of competitive matchups as Grind Session Dallas continued with seven games featuring programs from across the country and abroad. From last-second drama to dominant individual performances, Day 2 provided plenty of storylines heading into the Sunday finale.
Legion Prep 76, Grind Prep 70
The day opened with a Texas vs. Oklahoma battle as Legion Prep edged Grind Prep, 76–70. Grind Prep jumped out to an early lead of nearly 10 points, but Legion Prep responded in the third quarter, taking a 43–42 advantage and never relinquishing control.
Jemini Mitchell led Legion Prep with 20 points, while Notre Dame commit Jacy Abii added 16. Kamora Pruitt recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Grind Prep was powered by a game-high 32 points from Jayla Jackson, but it was not enough to hold off the Dallas-based squad. Legion Prep wraps up play and heads into Christmas break, while ABC Prep will face Grind Prep in Sunday morning’s opener.
Legacy Prep 73, Albuquerque Prep 63
In the second game, Legacy Prep pulled away late to secure a 73–63 win over Albuquerque Prep. The contest remained tight until the end of the third quarter, when Legacy created separation and maintained the lead through the final buzzer.
Broderick Wyatt II paced Legacy Prep with a strong double-double of 25 points and 11 rebounds. Aiden Clark chipped in 16 points, and Jeremiah Holly finished with 11. Albuquerque Prep was led by DJ Smith, who posted 16 points and 11 rebounds, while Carter Basquez added 16 and Caden Miller contributed 13. Legacy Prep concludes its Dallas trip, while Albuquerque Prep prepares to face Star Alliance.
DME Academy 84, Mt. Zion Prep 75
DME Academy jumped out early against Mt. Zion Prep, opening a 17–10 lead in the first quarter and controlling the tempo for an 84–75 victory.
Point guard Nathan Kirk orchestrated the offense with 14 points, 11 assists, and 8 rebounds. Ryan Hampton led all DME scorers with 22 points, and Yohane Kabongo added 16. Mt. Zion Prep was led by Zion Green, who finished with 27 points and 11 rebounds. Jacob Canton added 19, and Jasaiah Cannady chipped in 16. DME heads home for the holiday, while Mt. Zion will face Central Florida on Sunday.
The Rock — Star Alliance
The fourth game featured The Rock against Star Alliance, with The Rock earning the win behind balanced scoring. Joseph Hartman and Deandra Harvey each scored 25 points, with Hartman also grabbing 7 rebounds and earning Tanager Sports MVP honors. Jacob Pleyer added 13 points.
Star Alliance was led by Ricards Aizpurs with 24 points, followed by Fallou Sow with 15 and Rafael Terry with 12. Star Alliance returns to action Sunday afternoon against Albuquerque Prep, while The Rock wraps up its Dallas appearance and heads into Christmas vacation.
SEPA — Second Baptist
SEPA controlled its matchup with Second Baptist from start to finish in the fifth game of the day. Beckham Black led SEPA with 31 points, while Jaxon Richardson recorded a double-double with 23 points and 10 rebounds. CJ Rosser Jr. added 20 points in the win.
Second Baptist was led by Reece Alston, who poured in 34 points and was one of four players in double figures. Will Goolsby and Kaiden Smith each scored 11, while Shia Francis finished with 12. SEPA will close out the event Sunday night against iSchool.
Zephyrhills Christian — BV Academy
One of the most dramatic finishes of the day came in game six as BV Academy escaped with a last-second win over Zephyrhills. Zephyrhills led 25–17 at halftime, with Tony Bryant scoring 9 first-half points. Bryant went on to post a double-double with 20 points and 12 rebounds.
Jordan Charles delivered the decisive moment, hitting all three free throws with one second remaining to seal the victory. Charles finished with 20 points and 8 rebounds, while Rokiem Green added 14. BV Academy concludes its event and returns to Arizona, while Zephyrhills Christian advances to face top-ranked Dynamic Prep on Sunday.
Central Florida — New School
The final game of Saturday was a tightly contested battle between Central Florida and New School. New School held a slim two-point lead after the first quarter, but Martay Barnes sparked Central Florida with 12 first-quarter points, including three three-pointers. The teams went into halftime with New School up 43–42 following a buzzer-beating three.
Central Florida pulled away in the second half to secure the win, led by Barnes, who finished with 32 points and earned MVP honors. New School wraps up its Dallas schedule, while Central Florida will face Mt. Zion Prep in Sunday afternoon action.
Sunday’s final day of Grind Session Dallas promises more high-level matchups as teams close out the event before heading into the Christmas break.
