Spotlight Athlete: Caleb Holt — Built for the Moment, Ready for What’s Next

By: Rick Manahan

This week’s Grind Session Spotlight Athlete shines on one of the most complete and accomplished prospects in high school basketball: Caleb Holt of Prolific Prep (Fort Lauderdale, Florida). Before hearing directly from Holt in the exclusive video interview following this feature, it is worth understanding the journey that has shaped one of the nation’s elite players.

Born on November 26, 2007, Holt’s path to the national spotlight began early in New Market, Alabama. His talent was evident long before high school, and as an eighth grader at Buckhorn Middle School, Holt earned a rare varsity starting role at Buckhorn High School, where he averaged 16 points and 8.5 rebounds per game against older competition.

That early trust paid immediate dividends. As a freshman, Holt led Buckhorn to the Alabama Class 6A state championship, delivering a statement performance with 32 points in the title game. He was named State Tournament MVP and Class 6A Player of the Year, setting the tone for a career defined by big-game excellence.

Holt elevated his play even further as a sophomore, averaging 20.2 points and 9.5 rebounds per game while guiding Buckhorn to a second consecutive state title. His season was capped by an extraordinary list of honors, including Alabama Mr. Basketball, Gatorade Alabama Player of the Year, MaxPreps Alabama Player of the Year, ASWA Super All-State, and yet another state tournament MVP award.

In 2024, Holt transferred to Grayson High School in Georgia, where he continued to thrive against elite national competition. He led Grayson to the AAAAAA state semifinals, averaging 18.2 points and 8.7 rebounds per game, and earned recognition as a MaxPreps Junior All-American, Region Player of the Year, Metro Player of the Year, and Gwinnett Daily Post Boys Basketball Player of the Year.

Holt’s résumé extends well beyond the high school level. On the international stage, he has been a consistent contributor for USA Basketball. He captured gold with the U.S. U16 National Team at the 2023 FIBA U16 Americas Championship, followed by another gold medal as part of the U.S. U17 team at the 2024 FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup, where he averaged 11.1 points and 3.3 rebounds. In June 2025, Holt was again selected to represent his country, earning a spot on the U.S. U19 National Team for the 2025 FIBA U19 World Cup.

Ahead of his senior season, Holt made the move to Prolific Prep in Fort Lauderdale, joining head coach Ryan Bernardi and a program synonymous with success. Prolific Prep has won the last three Grind Session Championships, is undefeated in Grind Session play this season, and currently sits in first place in the Power Conference, the Grind Session’s top men’s division.

A five-star recruit, Holt is ranked among the top 10 players nationally in the Class of 2026, the top player in Florida, and the No. 2 shooting guard in the country. With college programs across the nation closely tracking his decision, Holt has yet to announce where he will play at the next level, keeping one of the most closely watched recruitments in high school basketball wide open.

Now, after understanding the milestones, championships, and experiences that define his career so far, hear directly from Caleb Holt. In the video interview that follows, Holt reflects on his journey, his transition to Prolific Prep, competing in the Grind Session, and what drives him as he prepares for the next chapter of his basketball future.
