Grind Session action returned to the Sunshine State with a full slate of high-energy matchups, rivalry storylines, and standout individual performances.

Game 1: Gillion Academy 94, West Oaks 84

In a game loaded with emotion, familiarity, and off-season storylines, Gillion Academy defeated West Oaks Academy 94–84 in the opening matchup of Grind Session Boca Raton.

Many of West Oaks’ former players — and even their head coach — transferred to Gillion this season, setting the stage for a dramatic showdown. The rivalry delivered. The lead swung back and forth early, with Gillion controlling stretches only for West Oaks to repeatedly claw back. But in the final minutes, Gillion held firm and secured the 10-point win.

Mississippi State commit Willie Burnett III put on a show, dropping 31 points to lead all scorers.
He was supported by:

  • Aaron McGee – 18 points
  • Marcis Ponder – 17 points, 18 rebounds, 15 blocks (TRIPLE-DOUBLE)

Ponder owned the paint. His 15 blocked shots set the tone defensively and proved to be the game’s defining stat.

Despite Gillion earning the victory, West Oaks won the rebounding battle 50–48, staying competitive throughout the game.

West Oaks was led by Antonio Baymon, who scored 19 points.
