Former Grind Session star Jalen Green is on the move. In one of the most talked-about offseason trades, Green has been dealt from the Houston Rockets to the Phoenix Suns, signaling a fresh chapter in the career of one of the NBA’s most electric young scorers.
Green, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, has had flashes of brilliance during his time in Houston. Now, with a change of scenery and a new backcourt partner in Devin Booker, he’s poised to bring that same explosive energy to the Valley.
But before he made waves in the pros, Jalen Green was a household name in high school hoops, and his legend began right here—on the Grind Session.
Flashback: The Prolific Prep Powerhouse
Jalen played his senior season (2019-2020) for Prolific Prep, a top-ranked program on the Grind Session circuit. With Green leading the way, Prolific Prep won the Grind Session World Championship, and the team was primed for a run at the GEICO Nationals title. Many believed they were the #1 team in the country, and the team was stacked:
- Coleman Hawkins (Illinois / Kansas State)
- Jordan Pope (now at Texas)
- Mouhamed Gueye (now with the Atlanta Hawks)
- Nimari Burnett (Michigan)
- Frank Anselem (Georgia)
Green and Burnett were even selected to the prestigious McDonald’s All-American Game—but just like GEICO Nationals, the event was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. That 2020 Prolific Prep squad might go down as one of the greatest teams never to get their shot at a national title.
“We were ready. The world just stopped,” Green reflected later in interviews. “We’ll never know what could’ve been, but we knew what we had.”
