Grind Session Charlotte: Thrilling Friday Night of Basketball

NC Day 1

Harding University High School in Charlotte North Carolina, hosted a thrilling Saturday night of basketball at the Grind Session, showcasing some of the nation's top high school talent. Three games delivered exciting matchups and impressive individual performances.

Game 1: 1 on 1 (94) vs. Colorado Prep (59)

1 on 1 dominated Colorado Prep in a decisive 94-59 victory. LJ Rush led the scoring for 1 on 1 with 20 points, one of five players in double figures for his team. A strong inside presence was evident, with Jack Sorrell (14 points, 11 rebounds) and Isaiah Williams (17 points, 10 rebounds) both recording double-doubles. Jeremiah Jackson added 20 points, and Frank Oguche contributed 14 points to the balanced offensive attack. For Colorado Prep, future Buffalo Josiah Sanders showcased his talent with 23 points and 7 rebounds, while Frank Belibi Jr. added 14 points.

Game 2: West Oaks (64) vs. Balboa (52)

West Oaks from Florida edged out Balboa 64-52 in a game that saw West Oaks gradually pull away after a close first quarter. Jayden Joseph led West Oaks in scoring, followed by Willie Burnett III's 17 points and 5 rebounds, and Kiffen Teixiera's 12 points. Vito Albanese paced Balboa with 16 points, and Travis Musonda added 11 points in the losing effort.

Game 3: Winston-Salem (75) vs. DME Academy (71) – OT Thriller

The highlight of the night was an overtime thriller between Winston-Salem and DME Academy. Winston-Salem started strong, building a commanding 19-4 lead in the first quarter. However, DME Academy battled back throughout the game, making it a closely contested affair. Five star point guard Mikel Brown Jr. led DME Academy with an impressive 38 points. Winston-Salem countered with a balanced attack, with Adriel "AJ" Nyhora and Tyson Thompson each scoring 15 points, and Bradley Floyd and Darnerian Gibson adding 12 points apiece. The game went into overtime tied, with Winston-Salem ultimately securing a hard-fought 75-72 victory.

The Saturday Grind Session games in Charlotte provided a showcase of exceptional talent and exciting basketball. These three games highlighted the competitiveness and skill level of the participating teams, leaving fans eager for more action. In past seasons, our teams have played in some of the greatest and most unique cities across the U.S., as well as Canada, the Bahamas, and Puerto Rico. From November to March over 300 action-packed games will be played. The Grind Session is more than just great games: it's an opportunity to prepare for the next chapter of your basketball career.
